“Many doctors and psychiatrists prescribe synthetic anti-depressants for children with Depression or other developmental disorders.
While these medications certainly do have their place, it is my experience that they are significantly over prescribed, without first investigating more natural and equally effective alternatives.
It is alarming to see how many children are on a cocktail of prescription scheduled anti-depressants and psycho-stimulants. Often the drugs cause more complications than the original problem itself.

WASHINGTON (AP)— Twenty-five people died suddenly and another 54 suffered serious cardiovascular problems after taking drugs to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder between 1999 and 2003, the government says.
Children accounted for 19 of the deaths and 26 of the cases of nonfatal cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, stroke, hypertension, palpitations and arrhythmia, according to a Food and Drug Administration report.

Materials Needed:
* 7-10 Cotton Balls
* 1-4″ square of cloth-or netting
* Essential Oil-or your favorite Fragrance Oil
* Ribbon
Gather the cotton balls together squeezing them into the palm of your hand. Place onto a paper towel With an eye dropper, drop about 15 drops of your favorite essential oil onto the cotton balls turning as you go. Place cotton balls in the center of the 4″ piece of cloth, gathering the ends together, tie with a ribbon. There you have it.

Although there is controversy surrounding them, stimulants are still the most commonly prescribed type of medication for children with ADD and ADHD. The Drug Enforcement Agency says that stimulant drug production has increased 500 percent since 1991, and over half of the prescriptions for them are written by pediatricians. Stimulants are often effective in treating many of the symptoms of ADD — but are they the best ADD treatment for your child? Many parents are concerned about the side effects stimulants can produce and choose to investigate other options like behavioral therapy and herbal supplements as well. If you are like many parents, deciding how best to medicate your child for ADHD is not an easy task. Along with the increased prescription of stimulant drugs for children has come a heightened awareness of the risks these medications can pose, and more and more parents are searching for natural alternatives. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, the manufacture of stimulant drugs has increased by more than 500 percent since 1991, and over 50 percent of the prescriptions for these drugs are written by pediatricians. Unsurprisingly, these alarming statistics have raised questions about whether some doctors and parents are too quick to medicate children, and whether it might be worthwhile to try homeopathic remedies for ADHD before turning to stimulant drugs.

Many people think ADHD is a recent “fad,” a new diagnosis. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
In 1845, Dr. Heinrich Hoffman, a physician who wrote books on medicine and psychiatry, wrote an illustrated book of children’s poetry about children and their characteristics. “The Story of Fidgety Philip” was a portraite of an ADHD boy.
