What is Psoriasis?

Typically psoriasis sufferers usually develop well defined red raised patches covered by silvery scales which form first on the scalp, behind the ears, on the back of the neck, between the shoulders, on elbows and knees or near fingernails and toenails.

Other areas of the body can also be affected including the back, the penis, the nails and even eyebrows. Individual psoriatic patches can spread and join together to affect quite a large area of the body. The most common form of psoriasis is psoriasis vulgaris. Other forms include localized pustular psoriasis and exfoliative psoriatic dermatitis. Localized pustular psoriasis usually only appears on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hand; and instead of red, scaly patches there ’s usually a mass of tiny yellow blisters. With exfoliative psoriatic dermatitis the entire skin is red and covered in fine scales.

How is Psoriasis usually treated?

Psoriasis cannot be cured although symptoms may disappear for long periods. Conventional treatment is aimed at controlling the condition and ranges from simple topical treatments such as moisturizing and lubricating products and corticosteroid creams to exposure to ultraviolet light. Very severe conditions may be treated with anticancer medications.

While conventional treatments can be very effective, they can also be extremely harsh â�� especially in the long-term — and many treat only the external symptoms.

* 1 oz. Valerian

Use 1 tsp. of the herb mixture per cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 min., strain, sweeten if necessary. Drink a cup of this tea before going to bed each night for several weeks to calm overwrought nerves, lift depression, and help you fall asleep more easily.

Tea for coughing fits:

* 1 1/3 oz. St. Johns Wort
* 2/3 oz. Thyme
* 2/3 oz. Linden Flowers

* 3/4 cup dried chamomile
* 1 cup dried lemon balm
* 1/4 cup dried mint
* 1/4 cup dried lemongrass

Mix the herbs thoroughly, and store in an air tight container. For a cup of tea, use 2 tsp in a cup of boiling water. Steep for 5 minutes and strain out the herbs.

Managing Diabetes

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic biochemical disorder which affects the body’s ability to use carbohydrates, sugars and starches. People with diabetes are not able to produce sufficient insulin or are unable to use the insulin they produce effectively enough to break down glucose or sugar in the blood and make it available to the body.

More than 16 million Americans alone suffer from diabetes. Diabetes is often referred to as an epidemic in the Western World today.

There are two main types of Diabetes, referred to as Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes usually surfaces in childhood and is usually associated with the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin. People with Type 1 Diabetes are also called Insulin-Dependent because they have to take insulin for life.

Type 11 Diabetes is also called Adult Onset Diabetes and usually occurs after the age of 40. People with Type 11 Diabetes do produce insulin in the pancreas, but their body cells have become resistant to it.

Although people with controlled diabetes can lead a normal healthy life, uncontrolled diabetes means chronically elevated blood sugar levels which slowly destroy proteins in the body, causing considerable damage to tissues and organs.

Complications from untreated or poorly controlled diabetes include kidney damage, heart disease, nerve damage, and even blindness.
