If acupuncture is a mainstay of sciatica nerve treatment under Traditional Chinese Medicine’s (TCM) then acupressure is a closely related to it. The basic principles of acupressure are the same as acupuncture:
* Identification of cause of sciatica on the basic principles of yin and yang.
* Earmarking pressure points called meridians.
* Unblock what is known as Qi, the vital energy force.

Diagnostic procedures for sciatica involve a series of processes that are required to establish the cause behind the pain. Sciatica is normally associated with compression of the sciatic nerve due to a slipped or a herniated disc. Degenerative disc disease is a condition that is brought about by the ageing process. The sciatic nerve is sometimes pinched by the piriformis muscle that is located deep in the buttocks. Sciatic pain can also be caused by conditions that are not related with disc. Bad postures can also lead to pseudo sciatica, a pain that is similar to sciatica.

Homoeopathy is one peculiar therapy that does not have anything in common with other therapies in terms of the basic fundamentals that it uses. The only similarity that one can hope to find is in the way a vaccine works to prevent disease. Just as a vaccine is an immunogen consisting of a suspension of weakened or dead pathogenic cells injected in order to stimulate the production of antibodies to fight a disease, homoeopathic remedies in their dilute form cure the same disease that they cause in their undiluted form.

Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) is the pain caused by a compression of the trigeminal nerve, the largest of the twelve nerves in the cranium. The trigeminal nerve is primarily responsible for sensation in the face and one of its three branches is responsible for the movement of the jaw as well.

Sciatica is symptomatic pain caused by compression of the nerve roots in the lumbar spine or sacral region. Compression of the sciatic nerve itself can cause sciatica. Normally associated with a slipped or herniated disc, sciatica may also be caused by compression of the peripheral sections of the sciatic nerve. In late pregnancy the uterus presses the sciatic nerve and this may also lead to sciatica.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based on positive and negative energies generated by food intake, environment and lifestyles. Acupuncture is one of its mainstays for sciatica nerve treatment. Despite its popularity and effectiveness in many cases, acupuncture has not undergone much scrutiny from the researchers. There are many stories that tell us about the immediate relief and permanent cure that acupuncture is capable of. The fact is that success stories get advertised while incidents where acupuncture failed to treat do not get published unless there is an unfortunate happening. Like all alternative treatments, acupuncture too does not have the backing of drug companies as there is nothing in it for them.

Doctors use the term neuralgia to describe pain that originates from nerves. Many nerve pains are caused by overuse. For example, carpal tunnel syndrome is common in people whose are involved in excessive writing, typing or woodwork as it involves using their hands and fingers day in and day out. Leaning continuously on your elbow or crossing your legs all the time may also compress certain nerves. Compression of nerves may also be caused due to trauma, degeneration and narrowing of the spinal disc and other such reasons. One such common type of neuralgia is sciatica that is caused by a compression of the sciatic nerve that runs down from the base of the spine along the back of your legs.

Whatever the nature of your sciatica, chronic, acute, or episodic, your first concern is likely to be to obtain relief from the pain as the pain can be unbearable at times. Mainstream sciatic nerve treatmentfocuses mainly on drug induced pain relief, epidural steroid injections or surgery. The advancement in information gathering tools has made people more aware of the dangers of the side effects of conventional treatments. This has resulted in an unprecedented increase in the popularity of sciatica alternative remedies, like yoga, acupressure, acupuncture and biofeedback along with preventive measures to avoid risks of sciatica.

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body and it connects the spinal cord with the muscles of the legs and feet. It runs from each side of the lower spine through the thighs down to the foot.
There are a lot of myths associated with the word sciatica. For example, sciatica is normally understood to be a diagnosis but actually it is by itself a symptom. Literally speaking, the term sciatica means a pain in the low back, on one side of the rear and/or down the back of the leg caused by a compression of the sciatica nerve. Whatever causes that compression is the actual diagnosis.

Simply put, spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal. The narrowing of the spinal canal occurs as part of the ageing process in some cases. The shrinking spinal canal puts pressure on the nerves causing inflammation and pain. When, accompanied by a degenerated disc the condition can cause unbearable pain.
Spinal stenosis is almost never the reason for sciatica pain among patients under 50 years of age. But among the older people, the ageing process causes a degradation of the vertebrae. Sharp pointed projections tend to appear on the spine and it is these projections that pinch the sciatic nerve and cause pain.
