Weaning tips - Keep lots of organic baby towels and bibs handy

You should start thinking about starting to wean your baby only after he is six months old. It is only by that time the baby’s mouth, jaw, and digestive system are ready for semi solids and solid foods. But do not wait to wean your child after he is six months olds since learning to swallow is best done by this time. If you wait longer you might realize that you have to make quite an effort while introducing solids.
Mother’s milk is easily digestible and the delicate digestive system of your baby requires minimal extra effort. The baby’s digestive system needs time to get accustomed to any milk other than your own and new foods that you introduce from time to time.
As such, the baby will throw up most of what he ingests. It will not be long before you realize that your stock of baby bibs is insufficient. While choosing baby bibs, keep away from cloth bibs. If baby bibs are not waterproof you will find that you are short of baby dresses too.
Your hands will be tied with food in your hand and you may find it a bit difficult to untie a spoiled bib. A bib that is knotted around his neck will create problems for you and your baby. Bibs with Velcro fastenings can solve that problem. But, as the baby gains strength he may not like the bib and might try his hand at pulling it off.
You may need to use the bib for protecting the baby’s clothes and also to wipe off his mouth often while feeding. It is a safe bet to buy bibs made from organic materials. If this is your second child then you can use the old organic toddler bath towels to make small napkins or bibs so that you can ensure that your baby is not exposed to dangerous synthetic cloth.
Along with bibs, you will have to shop around for some other handy items that will stand in good stead during the weaning process. Unbreakable bowls, soft spoons, left over containers and a high chair will prove to be very handy items. Most of these things are liable to end up on the floor as the baby gets too fussy about food that he does not like. So be prepared to always keep one spare in case of need.
During the initial period you may find that the baby needs more time to learn to swallow. A food processor is more convenient than a bowl and fork to mash lumps into a puree. Weaning is not as difficult as some grannies may make it appear. All it needs is persistence, patience and lots of love for your baby.
