Learning Disabilities.
Many children with ADHDâŹapproximately 20 to 30 percentâŹalso have a specific learning disability (LD). In preschool years, these disabilities include difficulty in understanding certain sounds or words and/or difficulty in expressing oneself in words. In school age children, reading or spelling disabilities, writing disorders, and arithmetic disorders may appear. A type of reading disorder, dyslexia, is quite widespread. Reading disabilities affect up to 8 percent of elementary school children.
Tourette Syndrome.
A very small proportion of people with ADHD have a neurological disorder called Tourette syndrome. People with Tourette syndrome have various nervous tics and repetitive mannerisms, such as eye blinks, facial twitches, or grimacing. Others may clear their throats frequently, snort, sniff, or bark out words. These behaviors can be controlled with medication. While very few children have this syndrome, many of the cases of Tourette syndrome have associated ADHD. In such cases, both disorders often require treatment that may include medications.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder.

Grabbing a sleeping pill and gulping it down seems to be the easiest way to get sleep for those who suffer from insomnia. Admittedly it is the quickest way for insomniacs to fall asleep. But it is definitely not the best way to get sleep. This habit brings addiction, side effects and dependency along and these can be extremely difficult to deal with later.
Medication should actually be the last resort for treating insomnia. Before you start popping in the pill, it is imperative that you try and establish the underlying reason behind it. Stress, anxiety, bipolar disorders and other mental conditions are the most common conditions that produce symptoms of insomnia.
Even when it is a case of treating depression and the accompanying symptom of insomnia the first choice should be to treating depression naturally. Choosing natural remedies for depression rather antidepressants is a wise choice since antidepressants have side effects that include sleeping disorders.

Homeopathy is an alternative medical discipline that is natural and believes that a disease is a pathological disturbance in the body. It uses natural substances in a highly diluted state to treat the disorder. The principle that homeopathy works on is âŹĹlet likes cure likesâ

Any illness brings in its wake worries about the cost of treatment. Long treatments obviously mean higher costs.
Clinical depression is one major disorder that requires extended treatment that is likely to last for a long time. Some related disorders like bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder require even longer treatment regimes. Treating depression is a long and arduous process and at times treatment can last a lifetime.
United States does not have a universal health care policy. Treating depression in certain cases can mean shelling out hefty sums from the personal pocket. Depending upon whether you have an insurance or not and the type of health insurance that you may have, the average cost of medication, psychotherapy and other treatments can amount to anything in the range of $1,500 to $4,400.
People who suffer from bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders and the like are likely to have a limited source of income. Better medical insurance schemes are offered to people who have higher incomes. And therefore, these people, who need medical insurance the most, are left to fund for themselves in most cases.
Everyone hears a lot about attention deficit problems these days and the condition has even become a staple of media entertainment (mainly sitcoms), appearing as a humor-based topic on shows like Desperate Housewives and the animated series, South Park. But what exactly are attention problems beyond how we might normally conceptualize them?
The condition known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, can be summarized in a variety of ways, but essentially, the condition is simply one that is denoted by characteristic hyperactivity, short attention span, and high impulsivity. It is also a medical condition for which the diagnosis is occurring far more frequently. And, though this may not be surprising to some, the disorder is one that predominantly affects one particular gender.
How prevalent is ADHD? It may affect between from five to ten percent of younger children with the condition being diagnosed far more frequently in males versus females (up to 10 times more often).
Tourette Syndrome: A very small proportion of people with ADHD have a neurological disorder called Tourette Syndrome, which causes various nervous tics and repetitive mannerisms. While very few children have this syndrome, many of the cases of Tourette syndrome have associated ADHD.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder: As many as one-third to one-half of all children with ADHD–mostly boys–have another condition, known as oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). These children are often defiant, stubborn, non-compliant, have outbursts of temper, or become belligerent. They argue with adults and refuse to obey.
Conduct Disorder: About 20 to 40 percent of ADHD children may eventually develop conduct disorder (CD), a more serious pattern of antisocial behavior. These children frequently lie or steal, fight with or bully others, and are at a real risk of getting into trouble at school or with the police. They violate the basic rights of other people, are aggressive toward people and/or animals, destroy property, break into people’s homes, commit thefts, carry or use weapons, or engage in vandalism. These children or teens are at greater risk for substance abuse experimentation, and later dependence and drug abuse. They need immediate hlep.
The brain ’s neurotransmitters can cause an individual to feel elated one minute and gloomy the next. Previously called manic depression, bipolar disorder is a type of depression that involves sporadic episodes of depression and mania.
A manic episode is marked with hyperactive behavior. On the contrary, the depressive episode typically involves periods of lethargy, pessimism, and loss of interest in everything. Medicinally, the manic phase requires tranquilizers and drugs that soothe, and the depressive episode requires mood elevators or antidepressants.
It is clear that the condition can become critical if the mood elevating drugs are continued once the manic phase sets in. This becomes extremely critical if the two phases occur and reoccur rapidly without any indication of their onset. Treating depression, specifically bipolar disorder, therefore necessitates closer medical supervision than any other cases of major depression.
Treating bipolar disorder only with antidepressants can increase the frequency of shifting from manic phase to depressive phase and back. Misguided treatment can actually cause suicidal tendencies to occur. A fine balance needs to be maintained between the level of antidepressant and mood stabilizers for appropriate treatment.
Terms like mental breakdown, nervous breakdown and emotional breakdown are not clinical terms and like sanity they are used only to generally refer to a state of mind. These terms are mainly used to describe a feeling of exhaustion due to daily demands made on an individual.
Emotional or nervous breakdown may refer to a number of things. It may mean anything – a panic attack, the manic phase of bipolar disorder, a psychotic episode or a feeling of being emotionally extended and exhausted by continuous hassles. It may also refer to bottled up stress that is ultimately let off.
The medical term that is used to describe this condition is emotional exhaustion or burnout. Emotional exhaustion is detailed as a state of physical and emotional enfeeblement marked by a set of insensitive behaviors and negative self-assessment. It is normally referred to in relation to emotional depletion caused at the workplace.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a specific psychotherapy that is used to affect emotions and perceptions in a positive manner. It involves talking about how you think and the way your thoughts, feelings and perceptions affect your behavior.
The basic premise behind the therapy is that behavior, feelings and thoughts are based on cognition. And therefore it is believed that if the process of cognition can be modified, the perceptions and feelings can be aligned.
CBT is a natural way of treating depression that does not involve medication. It can also be used in conjunction with medication in severe cases of bipolar disorders and manic episodes. But in most moderate to mild cases CBT is one of the natural remedies for depression that can successfully bypass conventional medications that are beset with dangerous side effects.
CBT is based on psychology. A psychologist evaluates the depressive symptoms on the basis of the study of human perceptions, behavior and emotions. Some of the premises that CBT works on are:
